Database Migration

ZeeBORN provides a tool that allows the convenient migration of existing Advantage Database Server versions of the ZeeBORN software to the new database engine. As soon as the new database engine is running and is available within the same local network, the tool AdsMigrate.exe can be started to copy all existing data to the new database server. For this migration it's not required to have the new database engine installed on the same server as the Advantage Database Server.

Preparation and Execution of the Migration

1.Install the new database engine and also install the new client software on at least one PC. This PC must have access to the new database server but also the the already existing installation of the ZeeBORN software.

2.Make sure that all users stop working in the old ZeeBORN software. Users may still use the software for accessing data in the old system. But as soon as the migration starts, all future changes or added data will be unavailable on the new database server.

3.Run the migration tool and copy all existing data to the new server. Depending on the amount of data and sites managed in the system, the migration can take up to 2 hours.

4.After migrating the data to the new software, install the new ZeeBORN software version on all connected clients.

 

If the new database engine is installed on the same server where the Advantage Database Server is installed, it's recommended (but not required) to run the migration tools directly on the same server.

Required Tools

The migration of the data existing in the Advantage Database Server databases to the new ZeeBORN Database Engine is performed by using the ADSMigrate.exe tool.

 

The tool will be installed together with the ZeeBORN Migration package. After installing the ZeeBORN Migration package, the tool ADSMigrate.exe can be found in folder %ZeeBORNClient%\bin.

 

After starting the tool you'll have two main options: A) migrating the main database and B) migrating selected site databases.

Migrating the Main Database

The main database contains all non-site specific data like user management info, purchasing, budgeting, safety management related data. After starting the tool, it will check if both databases servers (the Advantage Database Server and the new ZeeBORN Database Server can be accessed). The migration of the main database will be started by clicking on the Migrate DB button.

Depending on the size of the main database, the migration can take up to 2 hours.

 

Warning: Running the migration tool again after a while will overwrite all existing data in the new database.

Migrating Site Databases

Before starting the site databases migration, you should decide what sites are to be migrated to the new database server. The list on the left of the screen shows you all sites currently available in the Advantage Database Server. Select the sites you want to migrate and click the button Migrate Site(s).

Finalization

After copying the data to the new server, the new database can still not be used as only raw data will be copied. For finalizing the migration process you'll need to run the ServerSetup.exe. If the ServerSetup.exe was already executed before the data migration, you'll need to run ServerSetup.exe again in Repair mode for applying the correct table structures to the migrated raw data.

The ServerSetup.exe will also prepare the client installation resources needed for installing the client software on connected PCs.
